2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Transition Follows Poor Response

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.

Brinkman currently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in October 2024 in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the style."
